Margaret De Patta

In 2008, Julie was introduced to the untouched archives of mid-century jewelry designer Margaret De Patta. Over a four-year span, Julie conducted deep researched in the archives culminating in a ground-breaking exhibition and publication. Space—Light—Structure opened at the Oakland Museum of California in February 2012 before traveling to New York later that year.

RESEARCH

Diving deep into the archival materials, Julie conducted and oversaw all research on De Patta’s life and work, including an in-depth analysis of the designers’s original and production lines of jewelry.

EXHIBITION CURATION

Space—Light—Structure opened at the Oakland Museum of California on February 4, 2012 before traveling on to the Museum of Arts & Design in New York. Featuring over 100 historic piece of jewelry, photos, sketches, and artwork, the exhibition was the first major retrospective of De Patta’s work in over 35 years.

PUBLICATION DEVELOPMENT

The exhibition was accompanied by a full-color catalogue featuring scholastic essays, plates, and timeline of De Patta’s life and career. Julie authored an essay of De Patta’s attempt at production jewelry based on her original research.
